Keeping It Peel: Follow up

DIGITAL MYST

In the name of Dub and the name of John Peel, I found myself sitting in the dark in the corner of the cold floor of my cold room at 2 am, listening to Radio 1 through headphones so as not to wake up the grown-ups.

Digital Mystikz
were the souljah's representing the frontline of new music on last nights show- a tribute to the late great Peely featuring an almagmation of a mere handful of the thousands of musicians that John helped to push over his 30 years with the BBC.

Peely's love of music was remembered via a diverse line-up that reflected the history of John Peels music taste- PJ Harvey to Underworld to Dreadzone to Jon E Cash and loads in between, all of whom performed live from the Maida Vale studios where he recorded many of his infamous sessions. The show concluded with Digital Mystikz who were quoted by Annie Nightingale as being amongst John Peel's favourite discoveries of 2004, an accolade that will surely beat any award that the Mystikz may receive in the future and a nod to the distinct freshness of the Digital Mystikz sound.

Once again, R.I.P John Peel- More than just a DJ.

Listen again: Digital Mystikz

Listen again: the whole show
