It was okay...I liked the humour, but still hard for an old fan of the '70s (Pertwee/Baker) era to accept. My main problem was the pace - one story crammed into 45 mins just didn't seem enough to develop the storyline. Sign o' the times, I guess. The other thing about the old 25 min. format was you always got the cliffhanger at the end. My son who's 8 was seemed to enjoy it, though he said he wasn't scared at all. Interestingly, when I've played him some of the old stuff on video in the past, it usually got him a bit nervous.

Yeah I agree, despite being wicked, it wasn't without it's faults...but little ones such as Billie's accent and the scene where she rescues Who, which I thought dragged on a bit whilst the rest of the episode was too quick! Not suprised your 8 year old son was frightened by the old ones..they were a lot darker back then and had a 'war of the worlds' feel about them! Looking forward to seeing what the rest of the series is like!
