Forward Thinking>>
Archived Photos: FORWARD>> APRIL 21 05 with Digital Mystikz and Roll Deep.
Three things that made last week's now bi-monthly Forward>> so damn good:
1. The basslines. Had Plastic People in fact been some little shack in the Alps as opposed to a small but solid basement club in East London, Loefah's latest track (which we'll call Envy due to it's vocal sample), dropped during another big Mala set would have caused a state of emergency avalanche. My ears were hurting significantly afterwards and I'm sure that this ice cold beat which sent shivers up and down my spine is partially to blame, a warning to all those yet to experience the true power of the DMZ sound through the left hand speaker stacks at Forward>>
2. Witnessing two of the biggest and baddest stops on the map of London's underground sounds join together in an amazingly unexpected and flawless way. Watching Wiley, Jammer and God's Gift and other members of Roll Deep go mental during Skreamz Late Night Request Line and Coki's Intergalatic was a sight to behold as was seeing Skepta jumping on the mic during Mala's set which brought about a moment of shock. Further still, I finally understood what all the fuss is about after having my Grime Live chastity belt undone with a rare set from eski-boy Wiley.
3. Receiving a full on dose of Guiness Power. Many heads (including myself) had said that Digital Mystikz should have been booked for Forward ages ago, and what with the success of the first DMZ allnighter and of course, the recent Subloaded, seeing them at Forward was something I expected to be simply alright in comparison. However, the vibes that the Mystikz conjure up practically everywhere they coupled with the weird twist of fate that brought the presence and enthusiasm of some of Grime's biggest names down to Plastic People, confirmed that good things really do come to those who wait.
