XLR8ed

Congrats to XLR8R, the first publication to officially name the bass heavy, Garage/Jungle inspired music as 'Dubstep' who are celebrating their 100th issue this month. On their behalf, the wonderful Kid Kameleon (aka Matt Earp), caught up with some of the artists to see how the sound has evolved to produce an 8 page article 'Low End Theory'. I was honoured to be asked to illustrate the piece with some photos from my 2 years of documenting the scene. U.S citizens can grab the mag from all good newsagents, everyone else, first three paragraphs are here and hold tight, some pages will be available soon!

Lady dubz

As if her support for underground artists wasn't already enough, Mary Anne Hobb's has come out in fine style with an aptly named Warrior Dubz compilation including tunes from the likes of Mystikz, Burial JME and Amit. My girls and I have been discussing the artwork this weekend...definitely lovin the nipple tassles! Check Blackdown's page for an interview with the lady herself. I agree that in music gender shouldn't be an issue but big upz to Mary-Anne and all the ladies she mentions (and the rest!) for adding a much needed feminine touch to the sweaty, smelly boy dancefloors! Hold ya nose and keep on skankin.

Night in shining armour!

BIRTHDAY BLESSINGS SO BIG I CAN'T POSSIBLY KEEP THEM TO MYSELF. Sooo much love for the Strokes way of doing things... The music, the community, the positivity, the colour, the vibrancy.

Most of all, I've got huge love for my brothers that run it... Blue Movies and Chico. Over the years they've collectively saved me from many a dodgy predicament including sobriety, drunkedness, seriousness, silliness. They've given me space on their walls to hang photos (and helped me hang them), introduced me to incredible music from the likes of Flow State, Oliver Sudden and Spengler, let me chew their ears off about dubstep, got me home safely from many a party...the list goes on and on... Basically they're thoroughly nice gentlemen, as talented as fuk and full of love and passion. All of these qualities (and then some) come through vigourously at the night that's about to celebrate 2 years of seriously good existence.... may they and the whole of the Strokes fammo live long and prosper...see you on Thursday for some serious birthday beat-tings.

Man can croon

Yeeeeha! Yet another ridiculously talented South Londoner...

Jamie Woon... he can croon, trus' me, his voice will make u swoon...

Despite bumping into him a few times this summer, I'm still yet to see him live. His myspace material has had me stuck to my chair though. Spine tingle business.

Gonna try and reach his forthcoming gig at The Living Room in Cambridge, partially cos I'd quite like to revisit The Living Room which I reckon was the best live tent at this years Secret Garden Party. S'all about the centre-parted smokers jacket wearing host of the night Lord Bridge. I just can't resist a posh man with a devilish sense of humour.

Lot's o' London gigs coming up for the Woonster as well though... take a peek..have a listen, feel yourself melt away...
