And So This is Xmas...

Dodgy jumpers, over indulgence and mad friends you haven't seen in ages... don't ya just love Xmas? The abundance of wicked club nights is possibly one of the best things about Xmas... Thriller Funk, Metalheadz, Co-op, Spectrum... (you what??). I made it down to Thriller Funk at Herbal which started the festive season rolling with Skream, SLT Mob, Search and Destroy and J Da Flex on the decks. All of them absolutely smacked it and for once the Herbal sound system (despite the few minor technical issues) sounded so heavy that even the glasses were dancing.

The legendary but elusive Spectrum (we're talking 4 nights a year) @The Black Sheep Bar in the beautiful town of Croydon happened last night and brightened up a winters night with 2 of DnB's most infamous names around F-f-f-fresh and the bad bwoy Bailey. Spectrum resident Skope warmed the crowd up for Mr Bailey, who as always carved a wicked set, hitting with some dubwise styles and side serving of Amen for all those in the know. Fresh did his usual boing boing thing which went down a treat with the kids but had the grown-ups grimacing in the corner reminiscing about the old Jungle days when 'Jump Up' was a whole different ball game (apparantly).

Speaking of which, Good Luck to Palace today (not that they'll need it).

And On The Seventh Day She Shopped.

So Graffiti is vandalism of public space?

Bollocks.

I didn't ask to be bombarded with adverts and slogans for things I neither want nor need.

With this, and the Xmas-rush-to-the-shops-to-buy-something-crap-and-plastic-for-people-you-don't-really-like in mind, I introduce Shut up and Shop an Australian Graff artist who wants us to stop thinking about ourselves and start thinking about the issues affecting millions around the world... debt, poverty, and the fact that people would rather spend money on their pets than on starving people.

Peace and Love at Christmas time.

Keeping It Peel: Follow up

DIGITAL MYST
Originally uploaded by infinite.
In the name of Dub and the name of John Peel, I found myself sitting in the dark in the corner of the cold floor of my cold room at 2 am, listening to Radio 1 through headphones so as not to wake up the grown-ups.

Digital Mystikz
were the souljah's representing the frontline of new music on last nights show- a tribute to the late great Peely featuring an almagmation of a mere handful of the thousands of musicians that John helped to push over his 30 years with the BBC.

Peely's love of music was remembered via a diverse line-up that reflected the history of John Peels music taste- PJ Harvey to Underworld to Dreadzone to Jon E Cash and loads in between, all of whom performed live from the Maida Vale studios where he recorded many of his infamous sessions. The show concluded with Digital Mystikz who were quoted by Annie Nightingale as being amongst John Peel's favourite discoveries of 2004, an accolade that will surely beat any award that the Mystikz may receive in the future and a nod to the distinct freshness of the Digital Mystikz sound.

Once again, R.I.P John Peel- More than just a DJ.

BOH-LOGS

Some blogs I've been feeling lately. Long live the blogging boom. Boom, Boom, BOOM...

www.kode9.com Kode 9's top 9's, Sonic Warfare installments and general Ongy Bongy/Chips madness.

GutterBreakz: Loving this site.. mixing things up with everything from Plasticman to Plastikman to Photek to Incubus (and the FINE front-man that is Brandon Boyd...*swoon*)... write on Mr Nick Gutterbreakz, there's room for it all.

www.blackdownsoundboy.blogspot.com Home to Martin 'Blackdown' Clark, one of the UK's finest underground music journo's around.. check his recent article about the art and aggression of Grime MCing.

On a similar note is Chantelle Fiddy's world of Grime everything from Wiley's love of Robin Reliant's to some wicked interviews and general Grimey musings. Gotta say big up to this girl...

Last but not least should introduce Brooklyn's Dave Q who has been posting a few bits and pieces in the past few weeks including the superb interview with Kode9. Enjoying your words DQ, so nice one for that.

REGGAE-HIPHOP THROWBACK MIX

A serious throwdown of forgotten mid-90's reggae-hiphop remixes. Long before mainstream hip hop's current infatuation with all things Jamaican, the two worlds hooked up to bring us these underground bangers that still sound badass today. I taped this off the radio awhile ago then forgot about it until now (so forgive the occasional static)...
